Winery
Tours
Several award winning wineries call southern Oregon home. Three
distinct microclimates, Bear Creek, Applegate, and Illinois Valley
exist within the Rogue Valley AVA. Check them out and pick your
favorites. For a preview of the wine country visit the Applegate Valley Wine Trail
website.
Historic
Jacksonville
Just 45 minutes from Grants Pass through the beautiful Applegate
Valley. Jacksonville looks much like it did when Jesse James robbed the
local bank. Not really. That was a movie which substituted Jacksonville
for the less scenic actual town. Anyway, it’s worth the trip and a
visit can be coupled with an Applegate Valley Winery Tour.
Jacksonville is also home to
the Britt
Festival, an outdoor venue featuring big name performers throughout
the summer.
Ashland Shakespeare Festival. Numerous offerings. Check their
website for schedule and ticket
information.
Oregon
Caves National Monument
Another day trip when combined with
visits to Illinois Valley
vineyards. Guided tours only. Great exercise.
Extend the experience with an overnight stay at the historic Oregon
Caves Chateau on site.
Rental cars are available through
Rent-A-Car
and they will pick you up at the airport. If you talk to them
real nice when you make your reservation, they might even have a car
there waiting for you.
